I’m sharing my go-to set: a classic French braid, a “fake it” French braid for anyone who can’t coordinate their fingers (same), messy fall-feel braids, a double braid hairstyle that always looks put together, Dutch braid buns when you want a little extra, and a bubble braid upgrade with a mini braid threaded through.

3) Use the right hold (without naming products). If flyaways drive you crazy, a tiny bit of light hold helps. If you like the lived-in look, skip it and gently pull pieces out later.

4) Tie choice matters. Thin elastics are great for ends and bubble sections. Softer ties are better for buns so they don’t feel too tight.

1) Classic French Braid (The One Everyone Searches)

This is the “French braid tutorial” style that shows up everywhere because it works for school, work, errands, and even day-two hair. Once it clicks, it’s basically autopilot.

Step-by-step:

1. Take a triangle section at the front/top of your head (like where a half-up style would start). Split into three equal strands.

2. Do one normal braid stitch: right over middle, then left over middle.

3. Now the French part: before crossing the right strand over the middle again, add a small section of loose hair into the right strand. Cross it over.

4. Repeat on the left: add a small section into the left strand, cross it over.

5. Keep going down the head, adding hair evenly on both sides until you run out of loose hair near the nape.

6. Finish with a regular three-strand braid and secure.

My beginner tip: Keep your hands close to the scalp. If my hands drift away, the braid gets puffy in random spots and tight in others. Also, take smaller add-in sections at first—cleaner braid, less confusion.

Make it cuter fast: Gently “pancake” the braid by tugging the outer edges a tiny bit. Do it slowly and evenly so it looks full, not messy.

2) Can’t French Braid? Fake It (Yes, Really) 🤍

If French braiding makes my brain glitch, this “fake French braid” hack saves the day. It gives the illusion of that woven look without the constant adding-and-crossing stress.

Option A: The Pull-Through Fake French Braid

1. Take a small top section and tie it into a little ponytail.

2. Grab another section directly underneath it, tie a second ponytail.

3. Split the first ponytail into two halves (left and right).

4. Pull the second ponytail up and through the split, then clip it out of the way for a second.

5. Add a bit of hair to each half of the first ponytail (so it “collects” hair like a French braid would), and tie those halves together under the pulled-through ponytail—this becomes your next “row.”

6. Repeat down the head: split, pull through, add hair, tie.

Why I love it: It’s super forgiving, it looks full, and it’s easier to keep symmetrical because you’re working in clear sections.

Make it softer: After you finish, gently loosen each “bubble” segment so it looks more braid-like and less like stacked ponytails.

3) Messy Braids for Cozy Days 🍁☕️🦌

Messy braids are my go-to when I want cute but not too perfect. They look amazing with oversized sweaters, scarves, and that “I just threw this on” outfit that somehow works.

How I do my messy braid vibe:

1. Start with a loose side part (or keep your natural part).

2. Do a simple three-strand braid (or a loose French braid if you can) but don’t pull tight. Think “gentle tension.”

3. Leave out a few face-framing pieces on purpose.

4. When it’s secured, tug the braid edges slightly and pull a tiny bit at the crown for volume.

My rule: Messy doesn’t mean tangled. I still brush first; I just finish with loosened sections so it looks relaxed.

Best for: Medium to long hair, layered hair (it makes the texture look extra cute), and anyone who gets bored of a plain ponytail.

4) Double Braid Hairstyle (Double the Braids, Double the Cuteness) 💚💚

This “double braid hairstyle” is one of the easiest ways to look instantly more styled. It’s also practical: hair stays contained, and it’s great for busy days.

Two easy versions:

Version 1: Classic Double Braids (Two Braids)

1. Part hair down the middle from forehead to nape.

2. Clip one side away.

3. Braid the first side (French braid, Dutch braid, or just a regular braid starting lower—your choice).

4. Repeat on the other side and try to match where each braid starts.

Version 2: Double Braids in One (Accent Braids)

1. Take two small front sections (one on each side of your part).

2. Braid each into a thin braid and secure with tiny elastics.

3. Pull the rest of your hair into a low ponytail or leave it down.

Why it works for “any hair type”: You can adjust the braid tightness and placement. Fine hair can pancake the braids for fullness; thick hair can keep them tighter for comfort.

5) Dutch Braid Buns (When You Want a Tutorial ASAP Energy)

Dutch braid buns look like you planned your whole day around your hair, but it’s basically two braids + two buns. The Dutch braid is the “inside-out” version of a French braid, so it pops more.

How to Dutch braid (quick guide): Same as French braiding, but instead of crossing strands over the middle, you cross them under. That’s the whole secret.

Step-by-step Dutch braid buns:

1. Part hair down the middle and clip one side away.

2. Start at the front hairline with three strands.

3. Cross right strand under the middle, then left strand under the middle.

4. Each time you cross under, add a small section of hair into that strand first.

5. Braid down to the nape and continue with a regular braid if needed.

6. Twist the braid into a bun and pin it. Repeat on the other side.

For short hair or fine hair: Place the buns a bit higher (closer to behind the ears) so the ends tuck easier. If pieces fall out, that’s normal—pin as you go and keep it soft.

Make it look fuller: Pancake the Dutch braid slightly before turning it into a bun. It gives that “braided crown” effect around the bun.

6) Bubble Braid Upgrade: Add a Mini Braid Through It 🫶🏼

This is one of my favorite “quick hairstyles” because it’s basically a ponytail with elastics… but the mini braid detail makes it look elevated. It’s perfect when I want something playful for summer, but honestly it works year-round.

Step-by-step:

1. Pull hair into a ponytail (high, mid, or low—whatever suits your face that day).

2. Take a small section from the ponytail (or from near the front if you want it more visible) and braid it into a thin mini braid. Secure the end.

3. Add elastics down the ponytail every 2–3 inches to create “bubbles.”

4. Gently tug each bubble outward to round it out.

5. Thread the mini braid through the bubbles: lift the hair slightly between elastics and slide the mini braid through each section so it weaves down the ponytail.

Why this looks so good: The bubble braid gives structure, and the mini braid adds that “wait, how did you do that?” detail without extra time.

Extra tip: If the mini braid keeps disappearing, make it from a slightly thicker section and keep it closer to the outside of the ponytail when you thread it.

Mini Troubleshooting (Because Braids Have Opinions)

If my braid is too tight: I restart with less tension at the scalp and take slightly bigger sections. Tight braids can look sleek, but they shouldn’t feel like a headache.

If my braid is too loose: I keep my hands closer to my head and make sure each cross is snug before adding more hair.

If my sections look uneven: I use my thumbs to “measure” similar-sized pieces on both sides. It doesn’t have to be perfect, but this helps a lot.

If flyaways bother me: I smooth lightly with my fingers and embrace a few soft pieces around the face. A little texture makes it look more effortless anyway.
